Siena Field Hockey Signs Five for 2010
Saints Announce Class of 2014
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Siena Field Hockey coach Bill Davidson has announced his incoming recruiting class which will enroll at the college and begin competition this fall. Cory delaGorgendiere, Beth Meyers, Michaela Sullivan, Jessica Smith and Lindsay Mayo will comprise the Field Hockey program’s Class of 2014.
“We are very excited to welcome our five incoming freshmen to our program,” noted Davidson. “We anticipate they will each compete for a starting position in all areas of play: scoring, transition, backfield and goalkeeping. In addition to our five incoming freshmen, we hope to welcome back several players who are returning from injury. We are all looking forward to the start of our preseason which will begin on Aug. 17.”
A native of Oakham, Mass., delaGorgendiere excelled both on the field of play and in the classroom in her four years at Quabbin Regional. A 2010 McDonald’s McScholar Athlete, as team captain this past fall she led her team to the Division I District E Finals while garnering Telegram and Gazette Division I All-Star, League All-Star and MVP honors. delaGorgendiere is also a member of the National Honor Society, Blue Gold Key Society and was awarded the Smith College Book Award, Award of Academic Excellence and Worcester County Superintendent’s Association Scholar.
Meyers, who hails from nearby Guilderland, was a three-year starter in goal for Guilderland High. She stopped better than 91% of the shots she faced en route to being named All-State, First Team All-Star and MVP last season. A multiple sport standout who was also captain of both the field hockey and softball teams, Meyers achieved high academic honors as well as she was a four-time winner of the Scholar Athlete Award.
Sullivan joins the Saints from East Northport, N.Y. where she was a starting forward for Northport High. An All-Division selection in 2008, last season she scored nine goals and dished out 12 assists en route to earning All-County honors. A two-sport athlete who also played lacrosse, Sullivan is an Honor Roll student and Scholar Athlete Award winner.
A native of Greenland, N.H., Smith was a four-year varsity starter at left midfield and forward at Portsmouth High. As a captain last season, she amassed nine goals and four assists in being named First Team All-State and Best All Around Player. Smith, who also played club field hockey for Seacoast United, is a recipient of the NHIAA and NHADA Athletic Academic Award as well as a member of the National Honor Society. Additionally, she received Academic Excellence Awards in the fields of Physical Science, Math, Biology, Zoology, Anatomy and Physiology.
Mayo, who is also a local product from Glenville, had a star-studded career at midfield for Niskayuna High where she led the Silver Warriors to a Suburban Council and Section II Championship last season. Over her four years, she accumulated numerous honors, capped by a laundry list of awards her senior season. In 2009, she was honored by the Times Union as the Field Hockey MVP, Player of the Week and Player to Watch. Additionally last season she was a Section II All-State First Team and All-Star selection after tallying 15 goals and nine assists. A member of the ADK Club Team, Mayo also was a three-time Scholar Athlete.
The Saints welcome these five new student-athletes for the start of preseason which begins on Aug. 17.
